Even before the prescribed 16 weeks were up, I was feeling the best I had in 12 years …

After 12 Years of enduring chronic and acute pain and the battle of trying to find answers for relief through both traditional and alternative methods, I arrived exhausted on the doorstep of Strength Lab. Always the biggest obstacle for any practitioner was a lack of understanding of the pain’s origin. Where to begin? I had been given pills to swallow and exercises to follow in the past, yet I had never been given hope until my first meeting with James Bowman.

It was a very thorough meeting with both of us asking questions of each other. I had come in a skeptic, having had too many disappointments in the current “silver bullet” I was being sold. James’ questions were specific and oriented in gathering the whole picture of my health as he and an assistant measured my body. The outcome of this measuring was a determination that there was a leg length discrepancy which was most probably the culprit. This discrepancy was enough (4mm) to to cause the degree of pain that I was experiencing based on the fact that my foundation was uneven. The notion of the evils of a bad foundation laid is biblical, so this made perfectly good sense to me. The easy solution was for me to purchase a 4mm lift and to wear it inside of my shoes at all times so that I was standing, moving, and walking from an even foundation. Finally, I was being offered hope.

I spent the next 16 weeks, 3 times a week, with James working on releasing the muscles that had remained in contraction for years. The leg length discrepancy stretched and tightened the muscles on the short leg side so much that they lost their ability to let go into relaxation. During each session, James did some manual therapy to release the pain, and then we would do some stretches and exercises. I was always sent home with stretches to reinforce the work we had done together.

Even before the prescribed 16 weeks were up, I was feeling the best I had in 12 years. The pain was almost gone. James had packed my mind full of tools to help myself when I wasn’t under his guiding and intuitive care. James knows by the results he sees that he makes a huge impact in his patients’ lives, but he also knows that the take home stretches and exercises are the real tools to our recovery and rehabilitation. As he says so himself, he has one hour a week with us whereas we have 168 hours a week to ourselves to use his carefully selected “tools” for our specific needs. In this case, doing what the “doctor” ordered has paid off exponentially.
